The problem

African businesses trading internationally were losing days and margin to correspondent banking. Settlement took a week, FX spreads were opaque, and compliance evidence had to be assembled by hand for every corridor. TranzyPay needed infrastructure that could clear same-day across eight countries without a compliance team growing linearly with volume.

What we did

01

Designed a ledger-first core where every movement is a double-entry record. Balances are derived, never mutated, which makes reconciliation a query instead of a monthly fire drill.

02

Built the payout engine on queue-backed workers with idempotency keys on every external call, so a retried instruction can never double-send money.

03

Modelled multi-currency accounts as scoped sub-ledgers, letting one business hold GBP, USD, NGN and ZAR positions with FX booked as an explicit, auditable trade.

04

Wired compliance into the transaction path rather than bolting it on: screening, limits and risk scoring run inline, and every decision writes an immutable audit record.

05

Shipped an operations console so the internal team can trace any transaction end-to-end, and intervene without direct database access.

Outcome

TranzyPay serves 1,000+ businesses across the UK, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, USA, Canada, Kenya and Cameroon, with same-day GBP and USD settlement into African corridors.
